Brian Yang
Owner/ Chief Instructor

AKMCA was founded by Brian Yang in late 2017, bringing with him over 15 years of martial arts experience. Brian is a certified Krav Maga instructor, accredited by Israel's prestigious Wingate Institute.

Brian’s extensive background includes working for three years as a martial arts instructor and adviser for the military's Special Forces, where his knowledge and skills were highly valued. Over more than a decade, he mastered multiple martial arts disciplines such as ITF Taekwondo, Sambo, MMA, and Wing Chun, constantly refining his own combat techniques.

In 2016, Brian discovered Krav Maga, a self-defense system developed for the Israeli military that incorporates techniques from aikido, boxing, wrestling, and more. Recognizing how his previous training aligned with Krav Maga’s realistic fight tactics, he fully dedicated himself to Krav Maga and eventually became a certified instructor.

Brian’s teaching has positively impacted numerous students, with many benefiting from the practical skills of Krav Maga. Notably, in 2019, one of his students in Melbourne successfully used Krav Maga to fend off three armed attackers, an event widely covered by the media.

Many people are often curious as to why, given his Chinese background, Brian teaches Israeli combat systems instead of traditional Chinese kung fu or martial arts. The answer lies in Brian’s belief that combat knows no national boundaries. Modern martial arts are often focused on performance and fitness, whereas Brian is passionate about teaching a system with real-world effectiveness. He wanted to find a combat technique that could be quickly learned and applied by anyone, regardless of gender, age, or physical condition. Krav Maga fits this vision perfectly as a simple, effective self-defense system suitable for all.

With his deep expertise and proven methods, Brian has established a reputation as an experienced and highly skilled martial arts instructor.
